Who It Is For

When is medical repatriation from Turkey considered?

Many international patients travel to Turkey for surgery and treatment, and many visitors need hospital care during a stay. When the patient is ready to continue care at home, the journey back may need medical support that a regular flight cannot provide.

  • Patients who had surgery or treatment in a Turkish hospital and need to continue care at home
  • Travellers who fell ill or were injured while visiting Turkey
  • Patients moving between a hospital in Turkey and a receiving hospital abroad
  • Families arranging the return of a relative whose condition needs medical support during travel

Based in Istanbul, NOVAERON brings together the discharging hospital, the medical provider, the air carrier and the receiving hospital so the transfer is planned as a single mission.

Transfer Options

How can a patient travel home from Turkey?

The option is chosen by the authorized medical provider after reviewing the patient’s condition. It is not decided by the route or the budget alone.

  1. Dedicated air ambulance

An aircraft configured as a medical cabin, with a medical team and equipment chosen for the patient. It is usually considered when the patient needs a stretcher, continuous monitoring, oxygen or intensive care support during the flight.

  2. Medical escort on a scheduled flight

For some stable patients, a doctor or nurse can accompany them on a commercial flight. Whether this is suitable depends on the medical assessment and on the airline’s own acceptance rules.

  3. Bed-to-bed transfer

Ground ambulances at both ends link the discharging hospital in Turkey, the airports and the receiving hospital, so the handover chain is planned as one mission rather than as separate bookings.

Destinations

Where are patients transferred from Turkey?

Missions can be assessed from hospitals across Turkey, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya and the Aegean coast. Permits, airport access and the receiving hospital’s requirements vary by country.

Costs and Insurance

How are cost and insurance handled?

There is no fixed price for an air ambulance from Turkey. The quotation reflects the route, the aircraft and medical cabin, the medical team and equipment, ground ambulance connections, permits, positioning and timing. No price, departure time or availability commitment is given before the medical and mission details are assessed.

If the patient has travel or health insurance, contact the insurer or its assistance company early. Coverage and approval are decided by the insurer, which may ask for the medical report and the mission quotation.

NOVAERON’s role

NOVAERON is not an air carrier, healthcare institution or ambulance service provider. It acts as an independent coordination provider. The flight is performed by the authorized operator and medical care is delivered by the assigned medical provider. Fitness to fly, medical needs and equipment are decided by the authorized medical provider. In emergencies and life-threatening situations, contact the local official emergency medical services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Medical repatriation from Turkey: questions

Who decides whether a patient can fly home from Turkey?

Fitness to fly, the medical team and the equipment are decided by the authorized medical provider assigned to the mission, based on information from the treating physicians in Turkey. NOVAERON does not make medical diagnosis, treatment or fitness-to-fly decisions.

Is an air ambulance always needed after surgery in Turkey?

No. Depending on the medical assessment, a dedicated air ambulance, a medical escort on a scheduled flight or another option may be suitable. The right option is defined by the medical provider, not by the route alone.

How much does an air ambulance from Turkey cost?

There is no fixed tariff. The price depends on the route, aircraft and medical cabin, medical team and equipment, ground ambulance connections, permits and timing. A quotation can be prepared after the medical and operational details are reviewed.

Will travel insurance cover medical repatriation from Turkey?

Coverage depends on the policy and on the insurer’s or assistance company’s approval. Check with your insurer before confirming a mission. The insurer may ask for the medical report and the mission quotation.

Does NOVAERON operate the aircraft or provide the medical team?

No. NOVAERON is an independent coordination provider. The flight is performed by an authorized air carrier and medical care is delivered by a medical provider with the relevant competence.
